Self planned 10 day trip from Chennai
1.
Book circular ticket on Indian railway. This can be done at any railway head office, CST or BCT. Go with you
tour route and they shall calculate the fare and do the bookings. Starting
point can be Chennai.
2.
From Chennai Andaman return can be 6 -7 days if
by air and 10 days if one way by ship (60hrs) one way Air.
3.
If religiously inclined : Tirupati, Kanchipuram,
Vallore Golden temple, Thiruvanmallai, Thanjavore and further away Madurai+
Rameshwaram.
4.
Should not be missed: Mahabalipuram, Puducherry.(Arbindo Ashram)
5.
Along with Tirupati side trip to lake Pulicat
can be made.
6.
Chennai is just another city. Marina beach is
nothing great, but good for evening stroll.
7.
If 3- 4 people hiring taxi , rental car for
entire journey will be cheaper. To get confirmed railway tickets for entire
journey will be difficult.
8.
8 days rental small car will be about Rs.24000/-
for three inclusive of fuel and driver. Driver can be good helping hand. (At
times Tamils are not gentle enough to Hindi speakers) Tamil-Nadu has good state
owned and private buses. I can book the bus journey and can assist in railway
booking. If car is not acceptable then Bus + train combination has to be
planned.
9.
Night halt : 1 Chennai, 2 Vellore via
Kanchipuram, 3 Thiruvanamali, 4 Thanjavur
5 Madurai 6-7- Rameshwaram , 8-9 Puducherry, 10 Chennai via
Mahabalipuram.
10.
April is not good month for nature trails,
rivers and waterfalls. Even lake Pulicat will not have any migratory birds.
11.
If Tirupati is included then day 2 days or
remove Vellore and Thanjavore.
Temples trips can be boring and repetitive. Spending more days in Rameshwaram
(Dhanushyakodi), Arbindo Ashram , Puducherry can be very rewarding.
Tamil Nadu tourism hotels are the best and are all at the
best locations. Can be booked online.
My strong advice : Rent car for 10 days.
