Point of View

I happen to be in a vehicle with Red Beacon flashing on top because I was with family friend who is top ranking police officer. We were going to a place about 100Kms outside Mumbai, to attend a family function.
As we were traveling   on highway, we passed by a police station. We saw that there was a fairly big crowd outside the police station. My friend said, “Let us see what the matter is. This police station seems to be outpost on highway and there may not be any seniors to handle the situation.” He further went on to say, “this is not within my jurisdiction but my duty demands that I must intervene if the situation is volatile”.  So we backed up a little and drove in to the police station’s open space. On seeing the car with Red beacon, the station police officer rushed to our car. He opened the door for my friend and smartly saluted.
My friend asked what the problem was. The police officer said, “Nothing Sir, just a murder. A man stabbed his father-in-law over small tiff and the relatives have brought the murderer to the station. The situation is under control”. My friend said, “All right, small issue” and we drove on.
I was amazed and shocked and could not believe my eyes and ears. A murder, a small issue? I could not keep quiet and I asked my friend, “What does he mean by small issue? How a murder can be a ‘Nothing’ for police officer at station and ‘Small Issue’ for him?”
My friend smiled and said, “It is a small issue. It is a straight forward case. There will be no complications. It would have been a big issue if it was to be a murder of a person of one community by person of another community. It would have been a big issue if it was murder of lower caste person by higher caste fellow. It would have been a big issue if it was murder out of political animosity. It would have been big issue if it was murder out of gang war. It would have been big issue if it was a murder of social worker.” And we continued our journey.
Mind you, if you are nobody then even your murder is not an issue.

Small people get murdered and those 'Greats', get Assassinated .

Female Foeticide

All ‘hue and cry’ is not unjustified. But those who have stupid notions, zero morals, and no ethics will continue finding ways to kill the unwanted female child. At present, there is a law that stops them from determining sex of child before birth. Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1994 (PNDT), as amended in 2002 prohibits the sex selection of a fetus with a view towards aborting it. The law is in existence for 25 years and still those who want to murder the female foetus are easily doing so.
Even if you implement the PNDT in very strict manner, then these are the people who will find the ways to kill a female child.  We are 10000 year old civilization. We are people with brains and means for both Godly as well as satanic behavior. In olden days, they used just fistful of common salt, or generous dab of Opium for getting rid of unwanted female child. A midwife would use uncut umbilical cord to strangle unwanted child during delivery, on behest of her master. The ways are one too many for those heartless people.
If law manages to see that no brutal acts take place at time of female child birth, then these anti female child parents see that such a girl lives life of hell. She is not fed well, not clothed well, not given proper education. In many cases, she is reduced to unpaid servant, bonded labor. Family makes her feel that she is a liability and totally unwanted.  They may marry her away even before she reaches marriageable age. Then such poor girl starts next phase of her slavery, wherein apart from being bonded labor, she also has to bear sex attacks and bear children.
No Sir, law cannot teach morals and ethics. We have to change society’s mind frame. Western society does not feel that females are in any manner inferior to males. We Indians are in middle. We have sizable section of society that has honestly accepted the fact that both sexes are equal and yet a large percentage of populace thinks otherwise.  The worst case scenario can be seen in Middle East countries.
We have to change our society structure. It cannot be denied that in many communities, female child is really a liability, mainly because of ignorance, because of marriage expenses and dowry, because of social stigma against girl’s education, and because of no acceptance of female as co-worker.  These are humble, not so powerful people. These are the people who come from that stratum of society where they really cannot afford female child. Mind you, even today, those who get caught for being on wrong side of law are these people. Those who have means to manage their wrong doings are doing it any way, and doing it without getting caught. What we need is efforts toward prevention and simultaneous attack on this social cancer.
I cannot help pointing one absurd thought. If these people who are against having female child are allowed to have their way, then in few years time, Male: Female ratio will shift so drastically that future generation of the same people will start praying for female child.
One other observation is why we should need somebody who is selling his TV program to tell us about female feoticide?  With due respect to the cause, I do not think Mr. Khan thinks much about society nor does he really care for unborn female child. He is making his program popular by raking the issues which are safe for him to touch. He can talk against Doctors because they will not throw stones at his car. You will notice that in many episodes to come he will only touch issues which will appeal masses, which will be safe and will not be against powerful people and those who are in high places.

How Strong Is Indian Rs.

How Strong Is Indian Rs.???
We constantly hear and read about our good old Indian rupee losing its value. We are given a feeling by media that our money is of no value and is falling in abyss. In reality, nothing can be further from truth.
Other day I posted a letter by Indian Speed post. I tracked the letters movement on internet. I noticed that ‘20’ people handled my letter and made 20 entries, movement entries. The letter was delivered in 45 hours at the destination that was 1800Kms away.

I got immediate  intimation of the delivery . The entire service cost me Rs.25 equivalent to US$ 0.45. I  could vividly see how strong the Indian Rupee is.
Strength of a currency is determined by its buying capacity. In half a Cent, you can call from your mobile or land line anywhere in India. You can hire a taxi with starting charge of US $ 0.30 for first 1mile. You can board a local train and travel distance of 60 Kms and pay only $0.20.  In good  top class restaurant, one can eat to heart’s content for less than $10-20/- . Vada-Pav , an Indian Burger will cost you 0.15$ and another 15 cents will give you 200 ml chilled Coke or Pepsi. A 500 gms sliced bread costs only Rs. 16 or 0.30$. The list is endless. Normal family of four can have comfortable living in decent city locale , spiced with some holidays and outings for less than $300 per month.
In general, Indians are very hard working, resourceful, and brainy people, and they know how to stretch that Rs.
Indian Railway offers 90 days unlimited AC First class travel for US $1060. This includes coupe for two, all reservations and personal attendant.  You get free bed rolls, with crisp clean sheets and pillows. Air conditioned waiting rooms on all important stations  The same ‘90’ days Euro-rail pass costs $2000 and you have to spend at least 30-50 $ daily for reservation, sleeper etc.

How much stronger can you get?? Rs. is intrinsically very strong, we need some adjustment and changes . These changes are easily possible with little bit of direction, and with huge political and administrative will .

Should we become self reliant in energy, should we buy oil from countries like Iran and Venezuela, which are ready for barter or Rs. dealings,  should we stop exporting brains, should we stop squandering our money on useless things from China and western world, should we start being proud of our own things, and should we get rid of Black Money menace, then who needs to have strong Rs. in relation with Dollar, Yen or Euro ?
