Walk Alone

Walk Alone!!!

Walk alone,
Road will be long, unpaved, but will not be bitten route.

Walk alone,
Surmount obstacles, but will do so on own strength.

Walk alone,
Get lost in oblivion, but will find new route.

Walk alone,
Meet great dangers, but will go closer to ‘Him’

Walk alone,
Stumble, fall, get hurt, but will rise to be a winner,

Walk alone,
Get confused but will know the meaning of life.

Walk alone,
No carpet to walk on, but meadows will do just good.

Walk alone,
May not have directions but will lead others.

Walk alone, and at the end of the walk,
You will have somebody to hold your hand,
Who too, has walked alone!!!

The 'Angel' who had no name!!

After keeping our appointment with Almighty, at Dargah Shariff of Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti, and at Brahma temple, Pushkar , I and my wife started off for our next destination, Ranakpur Temple.
In general, roads in Rajasthan are good and without potholes. The driving distance was only 220 kms and we were sure to cover up the same in 4-5 hrs, as most of our journey was on NH 8. We started our journey around 14.00 hrs., and we were moving as per schedule till we reached a  place called ‘Bhim’ at 17.00 hrs. I was told to continue on NH 8 beyond Bhim and take right turn 10 Kms after a place called Dewair.
After Dewair,  the quality of road deteriorated drastically. It was very narrow road, practically unpaved. We descended into deep valley and dense forest. Suddenly it became very dark. We were apprehensive but not scared as this was not our first experience of getting lost and we knew like every time in past we will find ‘Angel’ to show us the way.
At around 20.00 hrs, we reached a small, very small village of may be 10-15 huts.  The village was in total darkness as there was no electricity. We found 3-4 men sitting outside one hut. We approached them and asked for directions to Ranakpur temple.
One man approached us and said, “Saab, this is not most preferred road to Ranakpur and at present this road is closed as a small bridge over the river has collapsed.” We knew that we were in trouble. We could not have stayed in that village; we could not have driven back through the valley we came in. After sometime another older person came near our car. He looked pretty dignified and spoke with reassuring tone. He said, “Bhaiya, I shall guide you. You drive for five kms through the river and then you will reach main road beyond collapsed bridge and then Ranakpur is only 15 Kms by good road.” He could read that I was shocked with idea of driving for 5 kms through river and that too in total dark. He continued, “do not worry, river has completely dried up and I shall join you till you reach good road.”
He got into our car and we gingerly drove on. He guided me perfectly all the way till we reached main road.  On reaching main road I asked him, “Sir, how will you go back?”  He smiled and said,” Do not bother, for us this is daily chore”, and vanished in darkness without even hearing my words of thanks.
I do not know his name and I did not try to know the same as well, because after visiting Pushkar and Ajmer, I would have looked for the religion in his name.

For us, he was an ‘Angel Who Had No Name’.

I can & I will

I Can and I will!!
I will have an extra scoop of ice-cream or one more fat burger,
I can surf internet till 4.00am and sleep till noon,
I can forget birthdays and anniversaries and for that matter even names,
I am happy to stand in senior citizens’ queue,
I can drink or eat in the bed, and I do not care to control body noises,
Not Lady Gaga, Justin Beaver, but Frank Sinatra, Boney M are for me,
‘Here is Lucy’ still entertains me and so does ‘Sound of Music’,
It doesn’t bother me if I cannot send SMS, but I still miss pager,
My literature is ‘Archie Comics’ but I also love Ayn Rand and John Steinbeck,
My travels do not have itineraries, nor has fixed hotel bookings,
I can have one way ticket to anywhere, with no fixed plans for return
I do blunder in social etiquettes or paper works, but at my age
I have earned rights to be wrong!!!
I don’t care for Grey hair & Wrinkled skin,
I don’t care for Cholesterol & sugar,
I don’t care for bones and joints,
I know my appointment with HIM is fixed,
I don’t want to mess with that,
But till then
I want to live my life,
I have seen good people, hard working people dying,
I have seen them leaving after toiling for life time,
I do not like that,
When I die,
None might shed tears, feel sorry and none might miss me,
But
I want none to pity me for not ‘Living’ my life

Point of View

I happen to be in a vehicle with Red Beacon flashing on top because I was with family friend who is top ranking police officer. We were going to a place about 100Kms outside Mumbai, to attend a family function.
As we were traveling   on highway, we passed by a police station. We saw that there was a fairly big crowd outside the police station. My friend said, “Let us see what the matter is. This police station seems to be outpost on highway and there may not be any seniors to handle the situation.” He further went on to say, “this is not within my jurisdiction but my duty demands that I must intervene if the situation is volatile”.  So we backed up a little and drove in to the police station’s open space. On seeing the car with Red beacon, the station police officer rushed to our car. He opened the door for my friend and smartly saluted.
My friend asked what the problem was. The police officer said, “Nothing Sir, just a murder. A man stabbed his father-in-law over small tiff and the relatives have brought the murderer to the station. The situation is under control”. My friend said, “All right, small issue” and we drove on.
I was amazed and shocked and could not believe my eyes and ears. A murder, a small issue? I could not keep quiet and I asked my friend, “What does he mean by small issue? How a murder can be a ‘Nothing’ for police officer at station and ‘Small Issue’ for him?”
My friend smiled and said, “It is a small issue. It is a straight forward case. There will be no complications. It would have been a big issue if it was to be a murder of a person of one community by person of another community. It would have been a big issue if it was murder of lower caste person by higher caste fellow. It would have been a big issue if it was murder out of political animosity. It would have been big issue if it was murder out of gang war. It would have been big issue if it was a murder of social worker.” And we continued our journey.
Mind you, if you are nobody then even your murder is not an issue.
and
Small people get murdered and those 'Greats', get Assassinated .

Female Foeticide

All ‘hue and cry’ is not unjustified. But those who have stupid notions, zero morals, and no ethics will continue finding ways to kill the unwanted female child. At present, there is a law that stops them from determining sex of child before birth. Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1994 (PNDT), as amended in 2002 prohibits the sex selection of a fetus with a view towards aborting it. The law is in existence for 25 years and still those who want to murder the female foetus are easily doing so.
Even if you implement the PNDT in very strict manner, then these are the people who will find the ways to kill a female child.  We are 10000 year old civilization. We are people with brains and means for both Godly as well as satanic behavior. In olden days, they used just fistful of common salt, or generous dab of Opium for getting rid of unwanted female child. A midwife would use uncut umbilical cord to strangle unwanted child during delivery, on behest of her master. The ways are one too many for those heartless people.
If law manages to see that no brutal acts take place at time of female child birth, then these anti female child parents see that such a girl lives life of hell. She is not fed well, not clothed well, not given proper education. In many cases, she is reduced to unpaid servant, bonded labor. Family makes her feel that she is a liability and totally unwanted.  They may marry her away even before she reaches marriageable age. Then such poor girl starts next phase of her slavery, wherein apart from being bonded labor, she also has to bear sex attacks and bear children.
No Sir, law cannot teach morals and ethics. We have to change society’s mind frame. Western society does not feel that females are in any manner inferior to males. We Indians are in middle. We have sizable section of society that has honestly accepted the fact that both sexes are equal and yet a large percentage of populace thinks otherwise.  The worst case scenario can be seen in Middle East countries.
We have to change our society structure. It cannot be denied that in many communities, female child is really a liability, mainly because of ignorance, because of marriage expenses and dowry, because of social stigma against girl’s education, and because of no acceptance of female as co-worker.  These are humble, not so powerful people. These are the people who come from that stratum of society where they really cannot afford female child. Mind you, even today, those who get caught for being on wrong side of law are these people. Those who have means to manage their wrong doings are doing it any way, and doing it without getting caught. What we need is efforts toward prevention and simultaneous attack on this social cancer.
I cannot help pointing one absurd thought. If these people who are against having female child are allowed to have their way, then in few years time, Male: Female ratio will shift so drastically that future generation of the same people will start praying for female child.
One other observation is why we should need somebody who is selling his TV program to tell us about female feoticide?  With due respect to the cause, I do not think Mr. Khan thinks much about society nor does he really care for unborn female child. He is making his program popular by raking the issues which are safe for him to touch. He can talk against Doctors because they will not throw stones at his car. You will notice that in many episodes to come he will only touch issues which will appeal masses, which will be safe and will not be against powerful people and those who are in high places.
